# Process Health Executive Dashboard

**Overview**

The Process Health Executive Dashboard provides a high-level view of how well the organization’s risk management process is functioning. It is designed to answer a simple but critical question:

**Can leadership trust the risk management process behind the data?**

Rather than focusing on individual risks or operational tasks, this dashboard assesses whether the core mechanics of risk management - identification, evaluation, action, and monitoring - are consistently and reliably performed across the organization.  While designed as a high-level executive summary dashboard, it provides useful information to everyone involved in the risk management process:

- **Executives and Board Members**: Quick assurance that risk management is disciplined and trustworthy.
- **Leaders and Managers**: Confidence that day-to-day work is rolling up into a healthy, defensible process.
- **All Users**: Transparency into how individual actions contribute to organizational confidence and maturity.

The Process Health dashboard tells a story of **the** **maturity of the risk management process and assurance that it's trustworthy**.  It separates two related but different ideas:

- **Risk Posture**: How much risk the organization has, where it comes from, and how it’s changing.
- **Process Health**: Whether the system managing those risks is working as intended.

A strong score and stable visuals indicate that risk management is being executed consistently. A declining score signals breakdowns in fundamentals.  In short: *this dashboard shows whether the “machine” behind risk management is running smoothly.*

## **Understanding the Dashboard**

### **Grading System**

The dashboard uses a simple grading scale:

- **A (90–100)**: Process health is excellent. Your team deserves applause.
- **B (80–90)**: Process health is good. The process is generally working as intended, with several areas of excellence, but there are opportunities for improvement.
- **C (70–80)**: Process health is fair. While some parts of the process are performing well, several deficiencies are present.
- **D (60–70)**: Process health is poor. Several parts of the process are showing signs of breakdown. Attention required.
- **F (0–60)**: Process health is failing. Significant parts of the process are not performing as intended and require urgent intervention. *Note: New system implementations will likely have failing scores until the processes can mature.*

Color cues reinforce these grades for quick scanning and interpretation.

## **What Goes Into the Process Health Score**

The Process Health Score is built from objective, repeatable measures that reflect the fundamentals of good risk management. These measures fall into two broad categories:

**1\. Record & Data Quality Measures**

These ensure that risks and action plans are documented completely and correctly.

Examples include:

- Issues with required review dates
- Issues linked to action plans
- Action Plans with review dates
- Action Plans broken down into tasks

Strong data quality ensures risks can be evaluated, tracked, and monitored over time.

**2\. Process Performance Measures**

These evaluate whether work is actively progressing through the risk lifecycle.

Examples include:

- How frequently new issues are being identified (discovery health)
- Action plans that are overdue or stale
- Issues or action plans past their review dates
- Risks lingering too long in intake, triage, or deferred states

Together, these measures assess whether risks are moving forward - or getting stuck.

## **The Math Behind the Score**

### **Measure Scoring**

Each metric is evaluated against predefined performance thresholds and assigned a grade:

- A - Excellent
- B - Good
- C - Fair
- D - Poor
- F - Failing

Each grade corresponds to a point value. All measures are:

- **Equally weighted** (no single metric dominates the score)
- **Performance-based** (focused on execution, not policy design)

The initial version of the score uses **9 core measures**.

### **Score Aggregation**

- Each measure contributes an equal share to the total score
- Points are summed and normalized to produce a single Process Health Score
- That score maps directly to the grading tiers

This approach keeps the math transparent, explainable, and defensible.

## **How Daily Work Impacts the Process Health Score**

Everyday actions directly influence Process Health:

- Adding review dates improves monitoring health
- Updating action plans improves activity and freshness
- Closing gaps reduces backlog and overdue indicators

Work performed at the **staff and management dashboard levels** rolls up into this executive view, reinforcing the idea that consistent execution at lower levels builds trust at the top.

## **Why Process Health Matters**

Leadership decisions depend on reliable information. The Process Health Executive Dashboard provides assurance that:

- Risks are being managed systematically
- Data reflects real, active work
- Reported trends can be trusted

By making process health visible, the organization strengthens accountability, transparency, and confidence - before problems escalate into surprises.
